We are a group of Grade 6 students here at École Golden Gate. Every day offers a new challenge as we make our way through our first year of Middle School together! Please take a look around our blog to see what we've been up to!

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Monday was such a busy start to the week with our visit to the aviation museum, but we were busy learning the rest of the week, too!

TUESDAY:
We chatted about our favourite parts of our museum field trip and had the chance to play with "Frax Pax" in Math to explore and discover equivalent fractions. This review will help us as we move on to improper fractions and mixed number fractions next week.

WEDNESDAY:
Mme Bees was back for another Roots lesson to get us ready for our next visit with bébé Arlo and maman Sarah. This lesson was focused on communication, sign language and family traditions.

We also had a chance to write questions we would like to ask Arlo if he could talk. This was a lot harder than we expected! Up until now, we've always thought of questions to ask maman Sarah about Arlo, so we certainly had to put our thinking caps on!

THURSDAY:
We did a lot of work on our classroom story, our version of the book "La malédiction des Maths." We read the story in class a couple of weeks ago and are now each working on writing our own page of our story outlining an event in our daily lives that could be exaggerated into a "Math curse" type of scenario. We have already done our first thinking and are now working on finishing our first draft and modelling our writing after the format of the book.

FRIDAY:
Are you superstitious? Do you find 13 to be a lucky number? We started our day talking about different good luck charms, habits and routines we follow and then got right down to a Friday the 13th Challenge! We answered questions involving 13, solved Math questions using the digits 1 and 3, matched up phobia names to their definitions and completed an informative text about Apollo 13. The time passed so quickly and there was so much going on, that Mme Careen didn't even get a single picture! Now THAT'S frightening! ;)

For the next two periods, we were very lucky to have Mme K back in our room one last time before she head's off to a different school for the rest of the year. She brought back her fun Math activities and we got to work right away! Some of us picked new activities we didn't have time to try last time...

...and some of us went right back to the activity that we couldn't solve last time and committed to solving it before the morning was over!

What a fun morning and a great week of learning!
Looking forward to another great week next week! :)
