We're already half way through our second full week of school and we've been keeping busy in Français, Mathé and Science.
In Français, we've been working hard at creating our classroom goals for the year. We've had a chance to see Mme Careen model how to write a goal, to work as a class to share our ideas and to write a goal with a partner. We've also been reading our goals aloud as a class so that we are reminded what we are working towards every day we're at school. Once we are finished reviewing and editing our work, our goals - in the form of an inspiration board - will be posted in our classroom and on our blog.
In Mathé, we've started reviewing "la valeur de position" and students have had the chance to be the teacher! We've started the last few classes with "Devinez le nombre" - an activity where one student chooses a large number (between 0 and 1 000 000) and then takes guesses from his/her classmates until the 'mystery number' is revealed. This activity has students practicing how to properly read and write large numbers, and has them using the "<" and ">" symbols.
In Science, we've been reviewing the steps of the Scientific Method and have also started our "Diversity of Living Things" unit with a sorting activity. Students worked in teams to place a bag of miscellaneous objects into groups with a commonality. We then compared how each team classified their objects and were surprised to see how many different object groups were created. (Check out the photos at the end of this post).
Finally, a few reminders:
1. The meeting for the proposed middle school reorganization is tonight, at 7:00pm at CSHC.
2. Thanks to all those who have already returned their questionnaire. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy evenings to do so! For those who still need more time, that's fine! I'm hopeful to have all forms back by Friday, but early next week is fine, too.
3. This is more so a homeroom announcement, but, our school Terry Fox run is this coming Friday. Our school fundraising goal this year is $505 - $1 for every student at Golden Gate. Please support this cause as you are able. Every bit makes a difference!
Have a great week!
